No casino for me

Here's an article from the local satirical website, TalkingCock.com, on how having a casino will affect Singapore in more than just economic benefits...

Personally, I'm dead against having a casino in Singapore. Economic benefits aside, having a casino will mean more bankrupts and more broken families. Putting families and communities on the line in exchange of the nation's prosperity sounds wrong to me. Sounds like dirty money; a business that exploits the weakness of human greed. How effective the social safeguards will be is anybody's guess, with a high possibility that such safeguards will be relaxed or even abolished completely over time.

Despite the Government's assurance that no decision will been made until the formal announcement later this month, anybody can see that by asking for proposals for the "integrated resort", they are sending a signal—intentionally or otherwise. I dare say I'm a pro-government guy (given their track record), but this time round I'm really disappointed with them considering the casino in the first place.
